Saving the earth is a big and quite urgent subject nowadays; and because almost everyone today has a cellphone, so making more eco-friendly cellphones is a really meaningful effort. Sony Ericsson have added a business phone to their line up of eco-friendly handsets. The multi-tasking Windows Aspen joins the Elm and the Hazel in the Sony Ericsson Greenheart range.

The phone’s general features reflect the business niche that Sony Ericsson are gearing their Aspen handset towards: the key point being the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, the latest version of the Windows phone set up that allows users to co-ordinate their phone with their PCs. And a Blackberry-ish shape with both a touchscreen and a full QWERTY keyboard makes easy typing a priority.

On the entertainment side, there’s also a media player and a 3.2 megapixel camera. The phone has built in Facebook and Windows messenger apps and the “Human Curvature” design lets it fit in the palm of your hand more easily.

It’s not just calling the phones after trees that make these phones eco-friendly. Their green credentials come from the manufacture, the packaging and factors like power-consumption. Green features on the previous Greenheart phones that we hope to see on this one come in three categories.

1. Less energy and raw materials are used in their manufacture and packing:
- Made out of recycled plastics
- Free from hazardous chemicals
- The instructions booklet is not printed on paper but is an e-manual in phone
- Packaging has been minimised

2. The Greenheart phones are designed to be more energy-efficient
- Low power consumption charger (EP300 GreenHeart(TM))
- Clearer voice technology should mean lower volume is required
- A Widget Manager application, which allows users access to their social networking page via the stand-by screen and quickly switch between different social networks, reduces the battery-wasting waiting time.

You can also use a special power-saving charger which minimises the power wasted when charging the phone.

Adding to the phone’s environment-friendly feature is the fact that its design includes an exteriror battery cover which is made from 35% post-consumer materials and recycled plastic which were actually extracted from water bottles and other polycarbonate materials. Additionally, the Samsung Intensity II’s packaging is also made from recycled paper and all the markings on the package printed with soy ink. The package size was also made unintentionally smaller. And its charger alerts you when the battery is full during charging.

Key specs and technical features of the Samsung Intensity II include – a 2.2-inch QVGA screen, 1.3MP infrared camera with night vision, series and divided shot modes, voice commands, advanced speech recognition, bluetooth, microSD card slot. The phone also comes with a built-in music player, one-touch contact list access, full suite of messaging options, social beat apps and VZ Navigator.

For your mutimedia needs, the Samsung Intensity II gives you easy access to downloadable games, ringtones, wallpapers, location-based services, as well as personal organizer and tools with calendar, calculator with currency converter, stop watch and more.

Functionally this new Samsung Intensity has no breaking bright spots, but quite nice nonetheless, and it’s quite eco-friendly, so this is a nice deal anyways if you’re in the looking of a nice smartphone. The conceptual cellphone from Nokia is achieved by a young Chinese designer, Daizi Zheng. Then you might wonder how long this energy will last for your phone, you know because we need our phone so it has to be long enough for use, otherwise this whole thing will be meaningless. Don’t worry, they know that better than us, so claimed by Daizi Zheng, “Bio battery has the potential to operate three to four times longer on a single charge than conventional lithium batteries”.

The other thing is that you then can charge your phone literally everywhere with a can of cola, or wherever there’s a store retails sugary drinks. And since your phone will share your cola, you might also be able to reduce your own amount of sugary drinks, good for your health. So, it is small, it is cool, and it is eco-friendly, and also it looks funny, it would be really nice to see this practical concept hit the marketplace soon.
