Nokia Launches the 5250 Mid-Range PhoneWe love smartphones, and I sometimes love simpler low-end phones too. High-end smartphones with great functions are indeed great, but sometimes all I need is some basic functions and a little entertainment, so a low-end phone will just do fine. Now let’s take a look at the Nokia 5250.

With the proliferation of highly advanced smartphones, it’s amazing how Nokia still continues to produce low-end phones yet possessing some nice, advanced features. One of these phones is the Nokia 5250, a touchscreen phone powered by Symbian and is being geared as a music-centric mobile phone.

The Nokia 5250 main feature has got to be its music player which has its own icon on the phone’s homescreen. The music player app supports Nokia’s Ovi Music Store, meaning you can purchase music tracks from the online store and download it directly to the Nokia 5250 phone. While the phone’s built-in memory is only 512MB which could hardly accomodate thousands of music tracks, you have the option to expand it via a microSD memory card up to 16GB. Aside from this, the Nokia 5250 also comes with a built-in FM radio and a complementary copy of Guitar Hero 5 Mobile.

Aside from the music player on the phone’s homescreen, there are also other apps, particularly social networking app such as Facebook, MySpace and others. The phone also lets you access your Ovi Mail, Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. You can also check out your IM accounts. For more apps, you can just check the Ovi Store to get the apps supported by the phone.

And since this is a music phone, it has to have long battery life. Fortunately, the Nokia 5250 can last you up to 24 hours of continous music playback or up to 18 days standby and 7 hours talktime.

Other features of the Nokia 5250 include – Symbian^1 OS, GSM/EDGE Network connectivity, 2.8-inch TFT screen with 16:9 aspect ratio and 640×360 resolution, and a 2 MP camera.

The Nokia 5250 is slated for a 4th Quarter release. It will cost you €115 to score this phone.

Well, how do you like the phone? I really like the polished design, it is quite chic, and the functions are ok to me. It seems a really nice phone to me.

iKaddish for iPhoneThe iPhone app world is a well fertilized market, therefore we can see lots of apps for iPhone out there, really helpful ones, interesting ones, beautiful ones, useless ones…totally a sea of iPhone apps. And today we’re going to tell you about a quite weird one called iKaddish. Tell me what you’ve learned from the name?

Yes, it has something to do with Kaddish, very clever. Actually this is an app that teaches you Jewish mourning prayers.

I don’t know if this is an common need among iPhone users, but an app now helps you to pronounce a Jewish mourning prayer.

If you find it hard to master the intonation while reciting the ancient Aramaic text of the Kaddish, this app will definitely help you.

It’s a free tutorial program that displays the text of the Kaddish in the original Aramaic and English transliteration, and chants the text, highlighting each word as it is pronounced.

I guess it could be embarrassing getting it wrong on sombre occasions, so take the time to download this app and get it right.

And if you want another app to help you cope with the grief itself, try Personal Cemetery, an app that lets you make gravestones for people who have died. Only kidding. Even Engadget think it’s a bit shoddy.

The iKaddish is free on iTunes, so why not give it a shot? It’s free anyway, nothing to lose.

Cellies Arm Candi Transforms Your Wrist into an iPhone PowergloveFashion is really versatile, it can team up with nearly everything, and most of the time we would love to see the outcome, because that means beautiful and functional. But what if fashion got really geeky, and nothing about functional, will you still buy it?

The fusion of fashion and technology so far has been going pretty well. We have seen laptops and cameras being influenced by top designers as well as assorted cases and accessories, and even headphones. However sometimes this merge can go awry and such is the case with Cellies “Arm Candi for your Cell.” A great concept in theory, but just not that functional in reality.

The essence of the accessory is that it slips on to your wrist, and on one side it is a studded cuff in addition to being a holster for your iPhone or any cellphone. The inner portion of the cuff has a material pouch that you can slip your device into.

However, whatever kind of device you decide to slip into this ‘Cellie’ – you’ll have a hard time operating it through your cuff as this was originally intended. The material used makes it hard to see the screen in order to operate the device in any way. So for anything more complicated than answering a call, you’ll have to take out the phone from the Cellie and use it – instead of being fashionably discreet.

The Cellie we got was the studded one and it seems to be one size fits all at the moment. So not only was it a little snug on our wrists to begin with – but adding an iPhone into the mix even made it more uncomfortable.

Cellies Arm Candi Transforms Your Wrist into an iPhone Powerglove 1The concept of Cellie is also not all that dissimilar to the Showstopper Gadget Pouch that revealed earlier. But while Cellies seemed like an ingenious idea and certainly fashionable at first, it really isn’t arm candy at all nor is it flattering. Instead you look more robotic with a bulky phone on your wrist. For those who are looking to mix up their ways of carrying their cellphones – then by all means Cellies is certainly unique, but not practical. However if you want a great looking material wrist cuff to match your little black dress sans phone – then this is a great fashion accessory.

Well, despite the fact that I do love studded stuff lately, I don’t think this is going to be beautiful on your arm if you don’t have a really slim arm, not to mention comfortable and functional, so I’ll simply pass this. What about you?

TrakIt app for iPhoneLots of things you can do with your new iPhone, for there’re lots of different apps which do many different things for the iPhone, and that’s the one of the biggest advantages of modern smartphones. And today here’s a cute app for you: If you like to do self-measures, the TrakIt app for iPhone will  help you keep tabs on your life.

If there’s one thing people like finding out about, it’s themselves. So iPhone app TrakIt is probably onto a winner with their tracking yourself app. It doesn’t really do very much apart from provide a format for you to track things in: helping you help yourself, you know.

Describing itself as a “unique Goal Setting and Daily Tracking app”, TrakIt says that they ”enable users to track anything on a daily basis: Sales calls, blood sugar, pill taking, their weight, stock prices, billable hours, miles run, whether they worked out or not, or anything else they would like to track. Users can also take notes, set goals, and quickly see how they’re performing in relation to those goals.”

Obviously that is most useful if you have some particular area you want to improve on and certain goals you want to achieve. Like with a lot of stuff it’s down to how much effort you put in. Do you remember to record stuff?

Features of the app that make it useful include the ability to track anything. Other apps tend to focus on particular things like weight loss. There are three ways to input data – you can either input numbers (calls made a day); yes/no data (did you go for a run?); or an average (what was your weight?). Your progress and goals can displayed visually in a graph, and the app also generates an automatic To-Do list which can buzz you with reminders – “eat a carrot!”, stop looking at it, you can’t have cheese burger!

It’s part of a broader trend of tracking ourselves, taken to a sort of extreme by the people in this New York Times article on self-measurement. Something that has increased a lot with smartphones because of the convenience of updating something that is always available.

Available for $3.99, it’s actually quite pricey for an app, but totally worth it for some people.

Alcatel release VM202 a pink phone - exclusively on VirginHonestly I’m not a fan of slide phones, so the Alcatel VM202 for Virgin is not really my girl, actually I wouldn’t want to talk about it if it isn’t a pink phone! But it is a pink phone indeed, and thanks to that I take a further look at it, otherwise I would have missed a really nice phone without even knowing it.

A chunky feature phone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the VM202 from Alcatel is not exactly going to trouble the iPhone, but it does look like a decent sturdy mid-range handset. Alcatel is a French-Chinese company which aims to produce phones for all over the world, probably a company to watch given their foothold in the world’s fastest-growing consumer market.

On a pay as you go deal exclusively with Virgin (for the first month) this is pretty cheap.

It has internet connectivity with Facebook and Twitter Widgets. The browser is the speedy Opera Mini. The VM202 also has a 4 megapixel camera which shoots video.

One key asset is the large storage space afforded by the handset. Virgin are packing a 8gb micro-Sim card in with the phone.

The VM202 handset will be available from Virgin Media stores and online at www.virginmedia.com for £39.99 including 300 free texts when bought with £10 airtime on pay-as-you-go. And you can check out more details on Virgin’s official site.

Luxor to Sell $1 Million Egypt-Inspired PhoneLuxurious phones made of gold are now quite not breaking news any more after so many luxury ones we’ve already seen, but the Luxor one is really something gorgeous and breathtaking. Sold for $1 Million, the Luxor Egypt-Inspired Phone is obviously not just astonishingly expensive, it is actually strikingly beautiful, elegant and luxury to every single detail!

High-end devices costing thousands of dollars have been increasingly developed in the last several years. In 2008, Vertu, the largest luxury phone maker, teamed up with French jewelry house Boucheron to create a gold phone, carved from a solid block, priced at $30,000.

Fashion houses such as Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Prada, and even Swiss watch maker Tag Heuer, have all released their own phones in an attempt to use their brand to add additional revenue streams.

In June, Gresso introduced a $3,500 version of the iPhone 4.

Luxor Las Vegas said it plans to sell an “Egypt-inspired” phone, made from 18-carat gold with black diamonds, costing $1 million.

The Las Vegas-based hotel and casino said its “Jackpot” phone, designed by luxury phone maker Gresso, is crafted from 6.3 ounces of pure gold, encrusted with 45.5-carats of black diamonds and features a back panel made of 200-year-old African Blackwood. In addition, each key is cut from a single hand-polished sapphire crystal.

Luxor said the Jackpot — and a cheaper version without diamonds, which cost $20,000 — is expected to go on sale in August. Luxury phones are really not for use, they’re just for admiring, even if I can afford (which is clearly a day dream), I just can’t imagine myself talking to my friends via a piece of gold and diamonds!
